<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\nThe piece’s progress was completed mostly in Art Class. The character in this artwork is Jester; my newest Original Character! Among my other nine original characters, he is the tenth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>Jester is a fairy and elf halfling. His design and name was heavily inspired by jesters -obviously haha-. I created him a couple months ago, while designing a character for roleplay with Star.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>We were creating characters also inspired by dancing. Like in this picture, Jester’s style of dancing is ballet-like. For personality, Jester is very mischievous, but I’m hoping to introduce him better in later uploads.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/figure>Like I said before, this artwork was mainly worked on in Art Class. But close to the end I finished it at home. We were going to do illustration with color pencils; my teacher and I agreed to do pencils because I had a whole box-full of quality color pencils. I was eager to learn how to use them! I was also given the challenge to include moving figures. At some point I thought of Jester; his dancing.<\/em> I swiftly sketched small figures of him- he was perfect for the job.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Using Jester as a subject made me excited, it was going to be the first time I use an original character in Art Class! I sketched bigger, more detailed figures for him, and thought out a composition for the piece. I decided to use black paper, to emphasize the night-time theme I would do. I enjoyed sketching, every pencil mark added more motivation for the final artwork next time.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Then I started on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was not going well. I traced the sketches onto the black paper, and they seemed off-proportion. When I started with the pencils, it got worse. As I colored, it looked like the color was scribbled-in by a toddler, and I was finding it hard to add detail. Perhaps it was the black paper; maybe I was too eager, piling too many challenges upon myself. I went home that evening discouraged. I wondered if I should start again. But I put the matter aside for the next Class, I could save it somehow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The next time I went to class, I was feeling better. I decided to focus on enjoying this piece. I didn’t want this experience with color pencils to be bad. Besides, whether it turned out bad or not, I would still learn a lot about color pencils!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n As I worked, the color pencils were getting easier, and I was figuring out how to use them to my liking!<\/p>\n\n\n\n I was even going faster than the previous Class. I fully finished my second pose, and even worked on the third! Now I was much more comfortable. I even found it interesting the way you can see progress with each pose; getting less scribble-y and more blended.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n I’m thankful that I decided to continue with the artwork, to not give. It turned out wonderful and I learned so much about color pencils! Even though I was really uncomfortable in the beginning, when I changed my mindset to learning all I could, and enjoying the piece, I pushed through and loved it! Sometimes when something is just not working out, we should change our perspective about the matter. Like seeing what we can <\/em>gain from it, and push through. Of course, you don’t have to take this advice, every artist have different processes, I just personally find this most helpful. But perhaps from now on, think twice before you give up on any project you have. You never know if it could turn around or not. And there is always a win in any case; we learn from it, for next time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If you enjoyed reading this post, please share it!
